FOAS Board Meeting
Minutes
1/20/09 6:30 p.m.
Present at the meeting: Kathryn Warnecke Ryan, Marilyn
Cunningham, Verity Mathews, Tracy Lovan, Donnia Krebs, JoAnne Sykes, Lynsey
Sugarman, Jennifer Gorena, Kim Lee.
- Call
to order at 6:30
- Minutes
– minutes from November reviewed. Motion to approve by Verity
Mathews, seconded by Tracy Lovan. Minutes approved with one correction,
date of January 2009 meeting should read January 20th not January 16th.
- Treasurer’s
Report – Tracy Lovan, treasurer, reported that she had entered information
on current budget on Quick Books in an attempt to make it clearer for all
concerned. Tracy reviewed each item. Of note was profit of + $1890.24
after 12 Angry Men production and profit of + $4840.93 after Willy Wonka.
- President’s
Report :
· Kathy Ryan reported on teacher grant
applications (see below).
· Discussion re increasing participation in FAOS
meetings and the organization as a whole and appointment of officers for
2009/2010.
- Funding
requests/decisions:
- Teacher grant applications - E-mail has been
sent to all Bluegrass and Lafayette SCAPA teachers re grant applications. Due
date is February 13th. FOAS committee to meet at the beginning of March (date
to be arranged) to review grant applications.
- Principal/Faculty
Report:
- Marilynn
Cunningham reported that there were 4 students who qualified for scholarships
for the 8th Grade trip to Atlanta. Fund raising has already raised half of this
amount and the remainder will come out of Principal's Discretionary budget or
8th Grade trip allowance (under Education/enrichment) with requests made
through Ms. Erbe.
- Marilynn Cunningham reported that Herald Leader
and Stu's News will be reporting on Ms. Randolph's class' Inaugural Ball.
- SCAPA students will be teaching some students
from Russell Cave Elementary their "Book It" skits.
- Discussion of need to move costumes out of Helm
Hall prior to the end of the school year. FCPS will provide transport and will
house the costumes at WT Storage. Discussion about need for ongoing cataloging
of the costumes before storage and need for decision about ways to catalog.
- Productions
Report -
- Discussion of request from Mrs. Bingham to help
defray cost of dancewear/shoes for students involved in Dance SCAPA. It was
suggested that students see Mrs. Erbe about this
- Parent meetings for Fiddler on the Roof and Mill
Girls have been set.
- Lynsey Sugarman asked for clarification Opera
House subsidies/Opera House Fund.
- Arts
Facilitator – Carolyn Waterbury-Tieman out sick. Following was
reported by Kathy Ryan after discussion with Carolyn.
- Dance
SCAPA tickets on sale. School show sales have been slow.
- School
show ticket sales for Fiddler on the Roof have been going well.
- School
show ticket sales for Mill Girls going well with the exception of
Wednesday morning show.
- Proposal
for increasing the budget for printing to $800 for next year for
directory.
- Reunion
on Dec 27th was poorly attended despite Matt Krebs attempts to contact
all of the class of 1998. Issue of whether this was the best time of year
to organize a reunion and the frequency of the reunion. Donnia Krebs to
discuss her impressions of recent reunion with Carolyn Waterbury- Tieman.
Suggestion that piggy backing SCAPA reunion the same weekend as Lafayette
reunion may increase number of people who attend.

meeting Tuesday February 17th at 6:30.
