FOAS Board Meeting Minutes

11/18/08 6:30 p.m.

Present at the meeting: Kathryn Warnecke Ryan, Tracy Lovan (by proxy to Kathryn Warnecke Ryan), Carolyn Waterbury-Tieman, Marilynn Cunningham, Lynsey Sugarman, JoAnn Sykes, Jennifer Gorena, Kim Lee, and Donnia Krebs.

  1. Call to order at 6:30 pm.
  2. Minutes – approval of minutes from October 2008 was postponed to the next meeting since hard copies were not available although October minutes were included in the November Lines and Notes newsletter.
  3. Treasurer’s Report was made and Treasurer is waiting for final information on Willy Wonka revenues/expenses.
  4. President’s Report – Need more people to volunteer for the Amazon.com gift-wrapping fundraiser. Otherwise, due to lots of help from lots of parents, all things are going very well.
  5. Special Funding Requests –
    1. There was a discussion about the need to pay a reasonable stipend to Lisa Thomas for directing SCAPA Lafayette’s Twelve Angry Women and a general discussion of the need to develop a policy on payment of compensation to guest directors, choreographers, teachers, etc. in the future. Following an explanation of the special circumstances provided by the Twelve Angry Women/Men producers for FOAS and a revised production budget, Lynsey Sugarman moved and JoAnn Sykes seconded, to approve the revised production budget, including the payment of a stipend of $1,500 to Lisa Thomas, and the motion passed unanimously.
    2. The President reviewed a proposal submitted by SCAPA Bluegrass faculty member, Pam Draper, requesting matching funds from FOAS for a grant to purchase various computer technologies and teaching enhancements. Due to timing issues, the proposal was circulated for input from key FOAS officers prior to its submission and Marilynn Cunningham and Mrs. Draper were pleased to announce at this FOAS meeting that the grant was received! Upon the motion of Lynsey Sugarman, seconded by JoAnn Sykes, FOAS, through unanimous vote of the members present at this meeting, approved the payment of matching funds for the Technology Grant to be received in the required matching amount of $4,848.00.
  6. Announcement of Next Meeting: Due to SCAPA’s participation in the Kentucky Christmas Chorus and the anticipation that there will be no material business issues to address before Winter Break, the December meeting is cancelled.The next FOAS Meeting will be on Tuesday, January 16 at 6:30 pm in the Library.
  7. Meeting adjourned at @ 7:15 pm.
