FOAS Board Meeting Minutes
3/16/2009 6:00 p.m.
Present at the meeting: Kathryn Warnecke Ryan, Cindy Bennett, Carolyn Waterbury-Tieman, Verity Mathews, Kim Lee, Christy Pellegrino, John Cole
- Call to order at 6:10
- Minutes – No minutes available from last meeting.
- Treasurer’s Report – Tracy Lovan, treasurer, not in attendance so no report presented.
- President’s Report –
- Funding requests/decisions: Budget request committee to meet soon after information sent out to teachers re requests.
- New volunteer forms to be sent out for this fall.
- Dance SCAPA 2010 – This will occur in April rather than February as a result of issues with weather in February. Rita Polzin to be the producer.
- Joy Henderson has agreed to be vice president of productions at the High School level.
- Back to school picnic set for August 7th (before school starts).
- Discussion of possibility of having consignment store to allow parents to sell performance attire (tuxedos, dance costumes etc.)
- Principal/Faculty Report: Marilyn Cunningham – not present.
- SBDM: John Cole stated that SBDM elections coming up. Call for nominations will be sent via e-mail and newsletter. Need to re elect one parent in May.
- Productions Report – Not present (see below for some information).
- Christy Pellegrino, Arts Wear Chair, reported that she has a variety of items at this point to sell and won’t be ordering any more until inventory is reduced.
- Arts Facilitator – Carolyn Waterbury-Tieman
- Discussed Arts Area Representatives for both Bluegrass and SCAPA Lafayette for next year. Christy Pellegrino agreed to be the representative for Voice, Cindy Bennett for Band and Verity Mathews for Ballet. Discussed importance of using Arts Area Reps as go betweens between faculty and arts area parents and faculty.
- Discussed need for information for each arts area in newsletter.
- Discussion of new room and time for FOAS meetings.
- Discussed upcoming SCAPA Lafayette performance of Fiddler on the Roof. Ticket sales are apparently going well.
- Discussed Gallery Hop Friday April 17th. There is a need for various performers from Voice, Band and Strings.
- Discussed increasingly busy calendar and the need to check dates for the remainder of the year to avoid conflicts and to touch base with Carla Pleasant to assist with calendar development over the year as a whole. Busy calendar can be particularly daunting for new parents.
- Sampler is April 30th.
- Carl Karl Paulnack from Boston Conservatory to be speaker in Beeler Auditorium next year.
- Kaza Kingley – author to speak to all of middle school students.
- New Business:
- Petia Little, custodian has requested mats to put under the water fountains to prevent pooling water which may be a safety issue. Cindy Bennet to work on this with Ms. Little.
- Announcement of Next Meeting: Tuesday April 21 at 6:00. May meeting set for Monday May 18th at 6:00.
