Infinite Campus Parent Portal Update
The Kentucky Department of Education is converting all school districts across the state to new student information management software. The new program, named Infinite Campus, is internet-based. This change took place on November 7, 2007 for the Fayette County Public Schools. There are many advantages to the new system and we are very excited about the change. Some of the benefits include the elimination of social security numbers, the ability to track student data changes as they happen, and a system of data storage that is more secure and centrally controlled.
With the conversion to the new system, STI Home (the most recent parent access to student grades system) will be replaced with the new Infinite Campus Parent Portal. When our schools began using Infinite Campus on November 7 they stopped entering any new data into STI and STI Home was disabled.
The original estimation was for the Parent Portal to be available in December but when the Kentucky Dept. of Education and the Infinite Campus folk migrated the data from STI to Infinite Campus their process for building "households" just wasn't accurate enough to use them to any great extent. While their conversion of student data went well the concept of "households" wasn't in STI so there wasn't a direct migration of that information. What this means is that rather than just verifying households, which was the original plan, a manual build will be necessary...there are going to be about 20,000 or so households for our 35,000 students.
KDE now anticipates that it will be January before the Portal will be turned on for general use. Parents that returned the "household information forms" and provided an email address will be notified when and how to access the new system. In the interim, if you need to know the status of grades or attendance then be sure and email your child's school and the staff they will help you.
