Read to Feed by Heifer International

All students have been informed about our community service project for November, Read to Feed by Heifer International. Read to Feed inspires children to get involved in a real hands-on way to help solve global problems like hunger and poverty. Children are asked to get sponsors for each book they read during the month of November. The goal is to raise money to buy gifts of livestock for struggling families who have few resources and need an ongoing source of income. There gifts help families move away from poverty and toward self-reliance.

At the end of the program, SCAPA students (grades 4-8) will collect their pledges, pool their money and then vote to decide what type of livestock they would like to purchase for families in need.

Read to Feed is an exciting adventure for children. Along the way, they learn many important lessons. They learn about different cultures around the world and learn the importance of using the earth’s resources wisely. They learn the value of self-reliance. Maybe most important, they learn that they can make a difference in the world.
